(People’s Daily) The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam, the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation , the Russian Embassy in Vietnam, and the Embassy of Vietnam in Russia will jointly organize the "Vietnam-Russian Agricultural and Fishery Trade Promotion Forum" online on November 23
    .

The goal of the forum is to promote the docking between the enterprises of the two countries, promote trade exchanges, increase the trade volume of agricultural products, and strive to achieve the goal of reaching 10 billion U.
    S.
    dollars in bilateral trade
    .

Currently, Vietnam is the largest trading partner of the Russian Federation in Southeast Asia
    .
From 2018 to 2020, the average annual trade volume between Vietnam and Russia is approximately US$4.
5 billion, of which agricultural products account for 18-20% (US$900 million per year)
    .
The above figures are not commensurate with the economic potential and long-term political relations of the two countries
    .

In terms of agricultural trade, according to statistics from Vietnam, the average annual trade volume between Vietnam and Russia before 2018 was only about US$500 million
    .
However, since 2018, the trade volume of agricultural products has grown strongly, with an average annual trade volume reaching approximately US$900 million
    .

In the first 10 months of 2021, Vietnam’s total exports of agricultural, forestry and aquatic products to the Russian Federation reached approximately US$469 million, an increase of 32.
6% over the same period in 2020
    .
Vietnam’s main exports to Russia include aquatic products, coffee, cashew nuts, fruits, tea, wood, and rice.
At the same time, it mainly imports aquatic products, wheat, fertilizer, wood, and recently meat and dairy products from Russia
    .

It can be said that the structure of agricultural products between the two countries basically does not directly compete, but complement each other
    .
However, the potential of trade cooperation between the two countries still needs to be further tapped
    .
Enterprises of both parties should pay attention to and take advantage of the free trade agreement between Vietnam and the Eurasian Economic Union (AEAU)
    .
According to the AEAU agreement, both sides enjoy low tax rates for agricultural products, and the tax rate for some products has been reduced to 0%
    .

The forum also guides companies from both sides to seize business opportunities and facilitate the import and export of agricultural and aquatic products between the two countries
    .
Trade organizations and industry associations exchange information on difficulties, problems and experiences in the import and export of agricultural and aquatic products, and propose measures to promote bilateral trade cooperation
