    Vietnam's mollusc seafood exports increased by 13% year-on-year in May

    From SeafoodMedia on June 30, the export of Vietnamese octopus and squid to the United States in May this year surged by 538% compared with the same period last year .
    According to data from the Vietnam Aquatic Export and Producers Association (VASEP), in the first five months of this year , saltwater fish accounted for 75% of Vietnam’s seafood exports, tuna 22%, other fish products 53%, and molluscs 20%.
    Others are crabs and other crustaceans .
     
    Compared with the same period last year, Vietnam’s seafood exports have increased.
    The export of molluscs increased the most.
    The export value of squid and octopus was US$216 million, an increase of 13%.
    The income of bivalve molluscs reached US$48 million.

    In the first five months of this year, Vietnam mainly exported mollusc seafood, such as dried/grilled squid, other processed squid, and processed bivalve products

    Nguyen Ha, a tuna market expert from the Vietnam Fisheries Export and Producers Association (VASEP), said that in addition to tuna, Vietnam’s top five seafood import markets include CPTPP, which accounts for 26%, South Korea 11%, the United States 8%, and China 7%.

    Compared with the same period in 2020, Vietnam’s seafood exports to the above five markets have increased over the same period.
    CPTPP increased by 7%, South Korea increased by 6%, the United States increased by 55%, China increased by 2%, and the EU increased by 31%

      In the CPTPP market, Japan is Vietnam’s largest export market and Vietnam’s largest single seafood exporter, accounting for 20% of Vietnam’s total imports of other seafood, reaching US$298 million

    Compared with the same period last year, exports to China only increased by 1%

    In terms of squid and octopus exports, Japan is the second largest single market
    .
     
      South Korea is Vietnam’s largest export market for octopus, and it continued to grow in May
    .
    In the first five months of this year, Vietnam’s exports to South Korea exceeded US$157 million, of which nearly US$89 million came from exports of squid and octopus
    .
    Although Vietnam’s seafood exports to this market continue to grow, the growth rate has slowed
