    In the "List of National Key Protected Wild Plants" published in 2021 , Palmetto and Umbra are listed as national Class II protected plants .


    Researchers at the Wuhan Botanical Garden assembled the chloroplast genomes of Palmarina and Umbellifera by shallow genome sequencing technology, whose sizes were 151,271 bp and 158,690 bp , respectively, and the chloroplast genome sizes were consistent with the previously reported laws
    .


    Judging from the data that have been reported so far, within the Sapinaceae, the subfamily Hippocastanoideae ( Hippocastanoideae ) is generally smaller than other subfamilies, namely the genus Acer , the genus Aesculus, the maple The chloroplast genomes of the genus Dipteronia and Dipteronia are generally smaller than those of other genera, reflecting that these genera are closely related to some extent .
    The study also detected three hypervariable regions ( Ycf1 , ndhC-trnV-UAC and rpl32-trnL-UAG-ccsA ) with the potential to develop DNA barcodes within Sapindaceae .


     

    The research results were published in the internationally renowned journal BMC GENOMICS under the title of " Comparative genomics and phylogenetic relationships of two endemic and endangered species ( Handeliodendron bodinieriand Eurycorymbus cavaleriei ) of two monotypic genera within Sapindales " .


    Yang Jiaxin, a doctoral student in the East African Flora and Taxonomy Group of Wuhan Botanical Garden, is the first author of the paper.
    This research was jointly supervised by Professor Hu Guangwan of Wuhan Botanical Garden and Associate Professor Hu Guoxiong of Guizhou University .
    The research work was supported by the National Science and Technology Basic Resources Survey Project ( 2019FY101800 ) , the National Natural Science Foundation of China ( 31970211 ), and the China-Africa Joint Research Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences ( SAJC202101 ) .
