Metformin is the first-line drug for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and the most commonly prescribed drug for T2DM globally

This cohort study from Finland included only children born between 2004-2016 whose mothers had been exposed to metformin or insulin during pregnancy

Metformin or combination therapy did not increase long-term prognostic risk

Risk of the primary long-term outcome in the control group

Risk of secondary adverse outcomes in the control group

Overall, this study found that exposure to metformin (alone or in combination with insulin) during pregnancy did not increase the risk of poor long-term outcomes in offspring compared with insulin .
