Individual patients with a history of adenomas have a higher incidence of colorectal cancer (CRC)
Researchers aim to characterize adenomas associated with proximal colon cancer (PCC)
We aimed to characterize adenomas associated with proximal colon cancer (PCC)
Between 2001 and 2010, we obtained endoscopic findings and pathology data from 17 UK hospitals in patients with more than 1 adenoma at baseline colonoscopy
Among 18,431 patients, 152 patients and 105 patients developed PCC and distant CRC, respectively, with a median follow-up of 9.
CONCLUSIONS: Baseline adenoma number, histological features, and proximal location are independently associated with PCC and may be important for identifying patients at higher risk for PCC after polypectomy
