Background: Severe hypoglycemia (SH) is defined as an event in which circulating glucose falls to levels too low to maintain normal cognitive function and prevent self-treatment
Background: Severe hypoglycemia (SH) is defined as an event in which circulating glucose falls to levels too low to maintain normal cognitive function and prevent self-treatment
Structured education in insulin dosing adjustment and technological advances in glucose monitoring and insulin administration have led to substantial reductions in SH in clinical trials, creating an evidence-based treatment pathway
Better understanding of the psychology behind problematic hypoglycemia
Psychological principles permeate many of the structured educational programs that have been most successful in reducing the incidence of SH, although none eliminated the problem, and none tested their effects on SH and IAH in patients with persistent SH after other interventions
OBJECTIVE: For some patients with type 1 diabetes, refractory hypoglycemia still complicates insulin therapy
Methods: We recorded a cross-sectional baseline description of 99 adults with type 1 diabetes and problematic hypoglycemia despite structured education on flexible insulin therapy
RESULTS: The HARPdoc cohort had long-standing diabetes mellitus (mean ± 35.
