The tonsils are important lymphoid organs with immune function, which is the first line of defense of the immune system against swallowing or inhalation of foreign pathogens, so this lymphatic organ is often congested

Recently, in a new study published in Advanced Science, the research group of Professor Li Zhanguo from Peking University People's Hospital and the research group of Wang Jun, a researcher at the Institute of Microbiology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, cooperated to discover the immunomodulatory effect

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a systemic autoimmune disease

By analyzing the metabolic potential of the tonsil flora, the team previously found flaws

In addition, Salivaricins, produced by Streptococcus salivary, are also an antimicrobial peptide

In the new study, the researchers delved into the immunomodulatory effects

In further in vitro cell experiments, the researchers demonstrated that Salivaricin can specifically inhibit the differentiation and activation of follicular helper T (Tfh) cells, while cells Th1, Th17 and Treg (regulatory T cells) that promote inflammation in the peripheral blood have no significant effect

In conclusion, the study reveals the immunomodulatory role of Salivaricin in autoimmune diseases, demonstrating that it beneficially regulates host immunity
