Front Pharmacol: Shugan Hewei Decoction improves depression and anxiety-like behaviors in chronic stress model rats—regulates cecal flora and inhibits NLRP3 inflammasome to reduce cecal mucosal damage

Background: Chronic stress from social stress or negative emotional stimuli can lead to psychological and physical manifestations such as anxiety, depression, and functional gastrointestinal disorders, and gut microbiota disturbances are also associated with these disorders

Conclusion: SHD can reduce the cecal mucosal damage and improve depression and anxiety-like behaviors by regulating the cecal microbiota, inhibiting the over-activation of the NLRP3 inflammasome in the cecum and serum
