Consensus Recently, researchers have developed a clinical decision-making tool to predict the effect of surgery on postoperative pain relief for patients with gallstones with different symptoms

The study was carried out in 25 medical centers in the Netherlands, including 1561 patients with symptomatic simple gallstones, which were clinically defined as patients with gallstones with uncomplicated cholelithiasis signs.

The tool development cohort contained 494 patients, and the validation cohort contained 1067 patients

Increasing age, no history of abdominal surgery, higher baseline pain scores, back radiating pain, analgesics alone, nausea, and absence of heartburn are independent predictors of clinically relevant pain reduction after cholecystectomy.
