Researchers collected intestinal specimens from patients with ulcerative colitis and analyzed the correlation between Claudin-15 expression and the reduction of VDR in colitis.

In human specimens, the researchers found that the decreased expression of Claudin-15 in colonic epithelial cells of patients with IBD was significantly related to the abnormal function of VDR.

Human experiments and mouse experiments have proved that the VDR-dependent claudin-15 up-regulation mechanism can prevent the occurrence of colitis.
