    Lack of understanding of the early stages of psoriasis development is a major obstacle to successful intervention in skin pathology


    We used skin biopsies from healthy donors and psoriasis patients to show the expression pattern of SLPI


    We found that mice lacking SLPI had exaggerated skin changes beyond the treatment site in imiquimod-induced psoriasis

     Figure 4 SLPI prevents water loss from skin areas in a neuroreflex arc-controlled manner


    Taken together, these data suggest that SLPI has a protective role in psoriasis by preventing skin dryness inherent in psoriasis pathogenesis, and that this SLPI effect is dependent on neuronal inputs operating in a reflex manner
