    Through a regular food sampling test, the Macao IAM detected excess sweetener neotame
    in a sample of prepackaged "Shiojin Plum Grain".
    IAM has ordered the merchants concerned to stop selling the product in question and has appealed to members of the public who have purchased the product in question to stop eating
    it immediately.
     
    The prepackaged Yanjin plum grains that failed the test were extracted from a chain supermarket in Macao, and the product brand and supplier was "Sweets World", and the content of the sweetener neotame was detected to be 110 milligrams per kg, which exceeded the requirements
    of the "Standards for the Use of Sweeteners in Food" in Macao.
    The packaging date of the batch in question is 24 September 2022, and the consumption date on or before this date is 23 March 2023

    IAM has taken immediate follow-up measures to order the merchants concerned to stop selling the problematic batch of the product and trace the source and sales flow of
    the product.
    After investigation, the local supplier of the product involved, "Confectionery World", mainly sold downstream to supermarkets
    .
    IAM appeals to members of the public who have purchased the relevant products to stop consuming
    them immediately.
    IAM will continue to follow up and investigate the incident to keep an eye on whether the relevant products are in circulation in
    the market.
     
    "New Sweet" is a common synthetic sweetener, which is widely used as a food additive in cold fruits, soft drinks, baked goods and various desserts, which can replace sucrose in food to reduce calories and enhance flavor

    According to the safety assessment of the Codex Alimentarius Commission, the acceptable daily intake of neotame is 0 to 2 mg
    per kilogram of body weight.
    According to the amount detected in this sample, under normal consumption by ordinary people, there will be no adverse health effects, and the public should not be unduly worried
