Screening for antibiotic prophylaxis
Researchers conducted a randomized controlled trial of antibiotic secondary prevention in Ugandan children and adolescents aged 5 to 17 years with latent rheumatic heart disease, according to a study published in the top medical journal NEJM

All participants underwent echocardiography at baseline and 2 years after randomization
Of the 102,200 children and adolescents screened by echocardiography, 3327 subjects were initially assessed to have latent rheumatic heart disease, and 926 of the 3327 subjects were subsequently diagnosed by echocardiography, and was determined to meet the test conditions
CONCLUSIONS: In children and adolescents aged 5 to 17 years with latent rheumatic heart disease, antibiotic secondary prevention reduces the risk of disease progression at 2 years
