Recently, an international research team led by German scientists analyzed the effects of 144 antibiotics on common human intestinal bacteria and proposed a new method that can reduce the negative impact of antibiotic treatment on the intestinal microbiota

There is a complex community composed of different types of microorganisms and many viruses in the human intestine, which enables the human body to use nutrients more effectively and prevents pathogenic bacteria from adhering and colonizing in the intestine

Based on earlier research, the team studied how each of 144 antibiotics affects the growth and survival of 27 common bacteria in the intestine

The research team further proposed ways to reduce the negative impact of antibiotics on the gut microbiota

Researchers also need further research to determine the best combination, dosage and formulation of antidote, and to rule out possible long-term effects on the gut microbiota
