Phytother Res: Probiotic supplementation can relieve constipation in patients with hypothyroidism

Hypothyroidism and obesity are two diseases with a high incidence.

A total of 60 patients with hypothyroidism were included in the study and divided into two groups: receiving 500 mg of probiotics (n = 30) or placebo (n = 30) per day for 8 weeks.

The results showed that at the end of the trial, the waist-to-hip ratio of the probiotic group was significantly decreased (P = 030).

In summary, the results of the study indicate that in subjects suffering from hypothyroidism, supplementation of probiotics for 8 weeks may alleviate the patient's constipation.
