LOS ANGELES, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) -- A new study published by U.S. researchers says they have analyzed positive samples of early neo-coronavirus in the Los Angeles metropolitan area of California and found that most of the samples have genetic sequences similar to those of viruses originating in Europe, suggesting that early new coronavirus in Los Angeles may have been transmitted mainly from Europe.
research paper was published on the 7th in the Journal of the American Medical Association, the journal Open Network. To find out how the new coronavirus was transmitted to southern California and to communities in Los Angeles, researchers at Cedas-Senay Medical Center in Los Angeles sequenced samples of 192 patients who indirectly tested positive for the new coronavirus between March 22 and April 15 this year, and compared them with genetic sequences from secondary samples from around the world, as well as those from New York City, Washington state and China, to determine possible sources of transmission, the paper said.
, 82 percent of the samples had a genetic sequence similar to that of a virus originating in Europe, suggesting that the new coronavirus in Los Angeles is primarily associated with viruses originating in Europe, according to the study.
is similar to the findings of a previous study on early transmission of the virus in New York City, USA. On July 16, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CENTERS) said an analysis of early new coronavirus-positive samples in New York City found that its genetic sequence was similar to that of viruses transmitted in Europe and other parts of the United States, suggesting that early new coronavirus in New York may have been transmitted mainly from Europe and other parts of the United States.
