As we embrace longer life expectancy, we also face a whole new challenge in human evolution – aging
.
Studies of a large number of species have shown that CR is one
of the possible strategies to promote animal lifespan.
Research overview
To analyze the effects of calorie intake, fasting time and eating time on lifespan, Acosta-Rodriguez et al.
The control group ate every 160 minutes throughout the day to eliminate the rhythm of food intake and prevent fasting
.
The researchers followed the mice for nearly 4 years and found that the life span of mice in the CR group was extended by a
large margin.
The study found that the average lifespan of the AL group was 792 days, while the average lifespan of mice with calorie restriction of 30%-40% was 875 days, indicating that a low-calorie diet alone could extend the lifespan
of mice by 10.
To mechanically analyze how CR saves animal aging, the researchers evaluated metabolic markers
in plasma in young and old mice.
Further monitoring of transcriptome changes in the liver every 4 hours for 48 hours, the authors found hundreds of circulating genes
.
Research summary
This study provides limited clues
as to how restricting diets can mechanically extend animal lifespan.
