    South Korea to amend Codex Alimentarius

    On March 31, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) of South Korea issued Proclamation No. 2020-132, which is intended to amend parts of the Codex Alimentarius, the main contents of which are as follows: 1. Add six aquatic products to the list of ingredients available in food: Argis lar, Buccinum kushiroensis, Buccinum osagawai, Solenocera Melantho, Hippoglosus hipposus, deep-sea red fish (Sebastesmentella).
    2. Modify the list of food raw materials: modify the name of 6 kinds of food raw materials, integrate 1 kind of duplicate food raw materials, specify the use of 5 kinds of food raw materials, modify the name of 5 kinds of food raw materials.
    3. New test methods for genetically modified foods.
    4. Modify the general test methodology.
    5. In accordance with the changes in the Codex Alimentarius, the standard for the use of preservatives in margarine in the Codex Alimentarius was amended: the limit for sorbic acid, potassium sorbate and calcium sorbate was revised from less than 1.0 g/kg to less than 2.0 g/kg, and the limit for the co-use of preservatives for sorbic acid and sorbic acid was revised from 1.0 g/kg to less than 2.0/kg.
