Researchers explored the impact of laparoscopic adjustable gastric band bariatric surgery on atrial fibrillation and stroke events in the overall and propensity-matched population of patients with and without OSA, and identified independent predictors of AF and stroke.
827 obese patients (average age 44±11 years old; average body mass index 49±8 kg/m2) who underwent laparoscopic adjustable gastric band bariatric surgery.
It can be seen that in obese patients undergoing laparoscopic adjustable gastric band bariatric surgery, although the degree of weight loss is similar, the incidence of AF and stroke in OSA patients is higher than that in patients without OSA.
