Sugar production in India's Maharashtra state is set to reach a new high

Maharashtra, India's largest sugar-producing region, has set a new record for production in the just-concluded season, with sugar mills paying 85 percent of their sugar cane arrears to sugar cane farmers, foreign news agency reported on May 7.
2018-19, Maharashtra produced 10.719 million tonnes of sugar, slightly higher than in the previous squeeze season.

ISMA said recently: "Given the opening inventory of 10.7 million tonnes as at 1 October 2018, production is expected to be 33 million tonnes, domestic consumption is expected to be 26 million tonnes and exports are 3 million tonnes.
