On March 20, 2021, Chen Xuewei’s team from the State Key Laboratory of Crop Gene Resources Discovery and Utilization of Sichuan Agricultural University was invited to write a review article titled Role of non-coding RNAs in plant immunity in the journal Plant Communications.
Coding RNA, especially miRNA, siRNA, lncRNA and circRNA play an important role in the regulation of plant immunity, and proposes the main research direction in the future.

However, various diseases restrict the yield and quality of food.

Long-term research has identified a series of key plant immunity factors that regulate plant resistance to pathogenic bacteria.
These regulatory factors are mainly coding genes.

In recent years, more and more experimental evidence has shown that non-coding RNA plays an important regulatory role in the recognition and transmission of plant immune signals, and downstream immune response activation.

This review systematically sorts out the miRNA, siRNA, lncRNA and circRNA that have been discovered in recent years to regulate plant immunity and their molecular mechanisms for regulating the immune response.

The coordinated regulatory relationship between different non-coding RNAs is described, especially the interaction between miRNA and siRNA, between lncRNA and miRNA or siRNA, and the interaction between circRNA and miRNA on the regulation of plant immune response.

In addition, the review also discussed the regulatory role of cross-border mobile small RNAs in the interaction between plants and pathogenic bacteria.

At the end of the article, the review looks forward to the hotspots and difficult issues in the study of non-coding RNA regulation of plant immunity.

This review will help us to more systematically understand the regulatory effects and related mechanisms of non-coding RNA on plant immune response, and provide important references for future research and applications in this field.
