    This real-world study in Chile is currently one of the largest studies in the world, with more than 6 million people participating in the study.


    Chile has currently received more than 12.


    There are currently two new coronavirus vaccines in Chile, namely CoronaVac and Pfizer-BioNTech.


    As mentioned earlier, Chile has recently ushered in a wave of epidemic peaks.
    But if we analyze the age groups of the new cases, we will find that compared with the peak of the epidemic in May last year, the infected people this time are more concentrated in the young and middle-aged groups.

    Researchers in Chile conducted a cohort study, matching vaccinated and unvaccinated people according to age, sex, income, comorbidities, etc.

    Effective rate of preventing hospitalization: 85%

    Chile still has a large number of new cases despite the large-scale vaccination.
    There are two main reasons.

    The first reason is the vaccine.
    With only one shot of the vaccine, the protection rate is limited, and the current vaccination rate has not reached a level sufficient to suppress the spread of the virus.

    In this regard, Israel is a very typical example.

    Israel’s vaccination rate is the highest in the world, but Israel’s data also fully demonstrates that when vaccination does not reach a high rate, the effect of vaccines is limited.

    As of this day, 51 out of every 100 people in Israel have been vaccinated with 51 doses, which is similar to the current situation in Chile.
    Also on this day, there were more than 11,000 new cases in Israel in a single day, reaching a record high.

    So we can see that even if Israel uses the most efficient vaccine in the world, even if more than 50 shots are given to 100 people, the epidemic will still reach its peak.

    This is because the vaccination rate is far from reaching the barrier sufficient to reduce the spread of the virus, and for the vaccine to be fully effective, it is necessary to wait 7 to 14 days after the second injection.
    There is a time difference here.

    The second reason is social prevention and control.

    The outbreak of new cases in Chile under vaccination was largely due to the Chilean government's early relaxation of social control.

    The drop in new cases in Israel and the UAE after mass vaccination has given the Chilean government an illusion that restrictions on travel, business and schools have been relaxed prematurely.
    For example, Chile abolished school control on March 1, allowing students to return to school.
    This led to a sharp increase in new cases, especially among young people, in March.

    We can also see this from the graph of Chile's real-world study.
    The elderly benefited from vaccine protection, and the infection rate was well controlled, while the lack of vaccination among young people, coupled with the relaxation of social prevention and control, became the fastest growing group of infection rates.
