Chlorinated modified polyolefins (CMPO) are mainly used in solvent-borne systems as primers or additives for coatings that need to adhere to surface-energy plastic substrates such as polypropylene, polyethylene, polyester and many other materials

    experiment and test

In this study, we evaluated four different NCMPO emulsions and one CMPO emulsion

In the second application, the water-based floor adhesive shown in the formulation in Table 4 was also made using a dental material mixer

In the third application, an acrylic emulsion caulk/seal adhesive formulation was prepared using a dental material mixer

    Results and discussion

In film adhesive applications, peel strength must be greater than or equal to 5 pli (pounds per linear inch)

In a floor adhesive application, we tested a number of polyolefin and rubber substrates to compare the differences between NCMPO and CMPO emulsions, and also tested a blank adhesive, but prior to testing, lap shear will fail

In caulking/sealing adhesive applications, the 180° peel test is shown in Figure 5

    in conclusion

This work demonstrates that the use of NCMPO emulsions enables formulations to bond to both low and high surface energy substrates
