    Direct monitoring of forest diversity by remote sensing

     

    While assessing plant biodiversity from a satellite and aerial remote sensing perspective does provide a new perspective, existing methodological models focus on estimating alpha or beta diversity alone .


     

    The study area is located in Hainan Qinglangang Provincial Nature Reserve, which has the highest mangrove diversity in Chi.


     

    The research was completed by Assistant Researcher Wang Dezhi (first author) and Researcher Zhang Quanfa (corresponding author) of Wuhan Botanical Garden, Hainan Normal University and China University of Geosciences ( Wuhan .

    Forest interspecific classification

     

    The direct classification of tree species is also one of the most commonly used methods for forest biodiversity monitori.


     

    The study found that tree species can be accurately identified based on the latest canonical correlation forest machine learning algorithm combined with UAV lidar point cloud and Sentinel-2 satellite image data , with an accuracy of more than 85 % , which is higher than that of using Sentinel-2 alone ( about 100% accuracy.


    This study demonstrates that the combination of UAV lidar point clouds and Sentinel-2 data provides a cost-effective and accurate method for mangrove interspecific classificati.
